What Are Dark Spots?

Like many of us we all have them. Dark spots are something that have been here before we even knew what they were. So, what is a dark spot you ask? It is an area of the skin/body that gets a little bit more melanin compared to other parts of the body.

Don’t be alarmed when you see them. Just because you have them, does not mean that something is wrong with you. Like many, when we see something odd with our body, we instantly become WebMD doctors… lol. Dark spots are not harmful at all actually. Common areas that you will find dark spots are on the back of your hand, face, shoulders and back.

There are many things that can cause us to get dark spots. Exposure to the sun being one of them. Living down south and having the beach in our backyard, being outdoors for us is never second guessed. But something that many will forget is SPF. Being exposed to the sun for long periods of time, can increase our chances of getting dark spots. We have to remember to always include SPF in our skin regime. By doing so, we can decrease the chances of dark spots happening.

Other causes for dark spots are, inflammation, which can come from eczema, psoriasis, injury of the skin and acne.

How to Treat Dark Spots?

There are many ways to you can treat dark spots. Depending on how patience and your budget works for you, you can go the route of doing laser treatment, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and prescriptions skin-lightening creams.

If you’re into the home remedies, like myself. You will want to look into products that have niacinamide, a form of Vitamin-B. You can also look into facials. For example, turmeric, lemon and honey. Honey helps treat wound and has antibacterial and anti-septic properties. Turmeric can help brighten up the skin. Lemon is a natural antioxidant and the juice contain Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which helps protect skin cells from UV rays.
